A vaginal dilator is a silicone or plastic-constructed device specifically designed to gently, progressively, and lightly stretch vaginal tissue over time.
Vaginal dilator therapy is the continued practice of utilizing vaginal dilators at increased sizes to progressively and gradually strengthen the vagina. With consistency, appropriate doctoral oversight, and attention, vaginal dilator therapy can successfully reduce and remove vaginal pain.
Vaginal dilators can be used for a myriad of reasons. Most commonly, they are prescribed due to:
To use a vaginal dilator set, first find the shortest dilator. While on your back with your legs bent, slowly insert the entire dilator into your vagina. Hold the dilator in the same position for roughly 10-15 minutes.
The goal of the set is to progressively increase in size over time. If you are finding extreme discomfort along the way, shorten the time in which you hold the dilator, and, if necessary, contact a medical professional.
Vaginal dilator sets are typically made of silicone or plastic. Ours are comprised of high-quality, medical-grade plastic that is dishwasher safe.
With each session, your goal should be to use a single dilator for 10-15 minutes. Attempt to utilize the dilator 4-5 times per week, with attempted intercourse – if possible – 2-3 times per week.
Gradually, you should progressively increase the size of the dilator week over week, or until you feel comfortable increasing the size.
No. It’s highly recommend to not use oil-based lubricants while using a dilator. Such lubricants can actually harm the interior of the vagina, thereby causing increased irritation.
